Leaking Toilet Causes Ceiling to Collapse
8/2/2022 (Permalink)
A leaking toilet located in the bathroom directly above the one shown in the picture was the cause of this ceiling collapsing. Luckily, no one was using the bathroom when the ceiling collapsed. The ceiling and most of the walls in the lower bathroom had become completely saturated due to the constant leak. The affected walls and ceiling would need to be removed so the wood framing and studs could be properly dried out. There was one exterior wall containing insulation that was discarded as well due to its condition. In addition to the necessary demolition performed in the lower bathroom, there was also demolition performed in the upstairs bathroom. Once the leaking toilet was removed, SERVPRO removed the tile in the bathroom in order to gain access to the subfloor. The subfloor was soaked, meaning the removal of the tile was the best way to properly dry the subfloor safely and effectively.
