Preventing Water Damage While You're on Vacation

Frozen pipes in home Frozen pipes in this home led to major damages.

Many people across the country love to escape the wintery cold for much more enjoyable weather elsewhere, although we cant blame you for that, there are some things you should do before you leave to ensure your house stays dry while you're gone.

1 - Turn off the water main.

2 - Drain your pipes after the water main has been turned off. Sink faucets, toilets, outside spigots, etc.

3 - Keep your HVAC system on and running. Doing this allows for the air in your home to circulate, without it, it can lead to mold or pipes freezing.

4 - Although this one might sound strange, it can come in handy. Put anti-freeze in your toilet bowl. Even when you turn off the water and drain the tank, there will still be water left in the bowl. Putting the anti-freeze in the bowl will prevent the water from freezing and expanding resulting in cracked porcelain.
